Classes

Highland: Traditional solo dances of Scotland; requires strength, endurance and the display of intricate footwork. Competitive and Non-competitive. Many community performance opportunities. Leotard and tights, Highland slippers(ghillies) must be worn. Practice skirt for national dances.

Jazz:
Jazz dance combines techniques of classical ballet and modern dance with the current forms of popular dance. Jazz also has its own movement vocabulary ranging from the isolation of certain body parts to the movement of the entire body with the accents of musical rhythms.  Emphasis is on the importance of energy, rhythmical accuracy, and style. Leotard and tights or leggings, black gymnastic slippers (beginner) or black jazz shoes.

Ballet:
Ballet is considered the foundation of all dance. A classical dance form characterized by grace and precision of movement. Soft shoe & Pointe(on approval). CDTA Ballet Method. Leotard and ballet pink or nude colored tights.  

Tap:
A rhythmical tapping sound is attained by the dancer from the small metal plates on the dancer’s shoes. Tap transforms the dancer into a percussive musician. Leotard & tights or leggings. Tap shoes must be worn.

Modern Stage/Musical Theatre:
Routines suited to stage productions, often taken from Broadway Musicals. Performances include dancing, acting, speaking and/or singing. Leotard and tights or leggings. Black jazz shoes.

Hip-Hop:
A style that evolved from the hip-hop culture. Hip-hop includes various moves such as breaking, popping, locking and krumping, and even house dance. Improvisation and personal interpretation are essential to hip-hop dancing. Often hip hop is referred to as a “street” style of dance based on music videos. Jazz pants or sweatpants.  Clean indoor only runners.

Lyrical:
Emphasis on flowing movements while using Ballet and Jazz technique. May interpret the lyrics or mood of a song. Leotard and tights. Jazz shoes, foot undies or bare feet.

Contemporary: C
ontemporary dance is a dance style that originated as Modern Dance. It rejects many of the strict rules of classical ballet, focusing instead on the expression of inner feelings while emphasizing creativity in choreography and performance. Leotard and tights/leggings.

Irish Dance:  Irish dancing is a traditional dance form that includes both social and performance opportunities. It encompasses wide variety of styles for solo, pair, and group dances. Irish dancing is a high-energy style that is recognized by its rapid precise movements of the feet and legs while accompanied by stationary upper bodies and arms. Can be performed in either soft shoes(ghillies) or hard shoes.
